I think this show is a fine example of the band in early 1979, and when they were on their game (as they were this night) they could play with exceptional fluidity. I don't need to critique the whole show, but I do want to praise Jerry's playing on the Half-Step (once they get up to speed). It's just gorgeous! Very inventive and cogent, and with a wide tonal palette. Jerry was just so damn good...

Subject: Looking Out For Your Best Interests
Vacationing In Myrtle Beach,We Decided We Needed An Upgrade. A Long Drive Up From S.C. W/ A Qwik Stop In Northern Virginia To Resupply And Off We Went. Dawn On The 1rst Found Us In A Nearby Parking Lot. The Doors Opened Late Morning And We Wandered To "Ground Zero" Just In Front Of The Board. The Afternoon Passed w/ Performances From The Good Rats With Their Lab Rats In Plastic Bags Thrown Into The Crowd, And The Greg Kihn Band. Luckily We All Entertained Each Other As The Yippie Pie Man Passed Through The Crowd With His Wares And Good Energy. (God Bless Him) The Field Of The Stadium Was Surrounded By Three Genesee Beer Trucks, So Before We Knew It The Dead Hit The Stage. The Sound Mix Was Fantastic With Phil's Old Bass Sounding Like It Was Being Played Inside Your Skull. The Mississippi -> Franklin's Got Us Up And Dancing And We Never Stopped. Met Some Of My Closest Friends In Years To Come In The Following Hours, A True Gathering Of Tribes. As The Pie Man's Wares Really Started Kicking In And The 1rst Set Ended. We Were Able To Reconvene And Shared Our Supplies As He Did His. Suddenly He Was Up & Gone Without A Word. Replaced By Really Shady Lookin' Folks. As The Afternoon Waned And The Band Again Took The Stage. Bobby Dedicated The Show To All The L'l Animals Caught In Laboratorys All Over The World And With A Telling Emphasis The "Keepers Of The Peace On That Building Over There With Their Cameras & Binoculars. We All Turned And Jeered As The Phenomenal Scarlet > Fire Began And Took Us Away Once More. Soon After Our Pastry Friend Returned. It Seems He Had Stashed A Large Amount Of His Best Products In Our Bag. He Was With Several Other People And He Was Very Happy That We Had Kept Everything Safe. He Thanked Us And Explained That He Needed Help Distributing What Was Left. Due To The Fact That He Was Being Watched. He Then Split The Remains With Me And The Friends Who Accompanied Him. Telling Me I Know I Can Trust You To Give These Away For Free. That He Knew I Was A Good Person. He Then Handed Me A Sucrets Box Full Of Purple Dots And A Small Bag Of Fine Smoke For Myself. This All In A Minute And He Was Gone Again. To This Day His Confidence In Me Has Helped To Keep Myself On That Path More Than Any Teacher Or Mentor Except My Mother And My Future Wife. Scarlet Turned To A 20 Minute Fire And As The Guys Took It To It's Peak Bobby Pointed Behind Us Over Our Heads To An Incredible Sunset Sinking Over The Stadium. Needless To Say I Was A Very Popular Guy For The Rest Of The Show And In Fact The Rest Of The Mini Tour. It Was Literally Impossible To Give Them All Away. But I Got Close. God Bless The Dead, God Bless The Yippie Pie Man And God Bless All Of You.... For Always Grateful...(Next On To Maine)

I love this show, had an AUD for a while, so is refreshing to hear a nice SBD. The Miss1/2Step>Franklin's is nice, so is the Scarlet>Fire, I think the whole second set is energetic and well played.
As someone mentioned below, the Sailor>Saint is still working the kinks out, so is not a great version.
Good Lovin has Bob losing it a bit at the end, and is a high energy version.
A great '79 show.

as one provided with 9/2/79 at an age of 16, its great to realize, Duh, what does the night before sound like. Augusta seems to have risenin our memories, this stadium is nowehere. But, if the band went from Rochester NY to Augusta Maine in 2016 I'll be sending them my cash.

Subject: A nice big Scarlet > Fire, but not one of the greats
This is a good high energy show with just about the amount of sloppiness you'd expect in mid '79, not too much but more than a little. The recording is quite fine; as noted, the fileset is out of order for the second set and encore.
The highlight is obviously the 30+ minute Scarlet Fire, which is that long because Garcia is clearly in a soloing mood. This becomes obvious when he vetoes Phil's introduction of the Fire theme in favor of more transition-jam soloing time. If, like me, you just enjoy listening to Jerry play Fire solos, you'll enjoy this one because he does a whole lot of it, and it's all pretty focused and on point. But only the next to last Fire solo is particularly inventive or unique. That one's great for sure. The rest of what he does here is pretty much what you'd expect if you've listened to many of the big Scarlet Fires from this era - fleet, nimble, and busy.
Certainly a worthy listen for fans of the era and Scarlet Fire hunters!

The Saint of Circumstance still needs work. I don't think Bob knew the words at all for this version; Jer's to blame for the mis-timing on the Wharf Rat break section. Still love it though.

The Scarlet Begonias listed is actually One More Saturday Night. The order is scrambled a tad. Also, Fire is Scarlet. Drums is Fire. Etc...
